The Soundtrack: June 2018

Wow, this month flew by! It, for me, has been as tumultuous as it’s been exciting. Luckily enough music came out to capture the mood. Those who are new to this I pick 4 songs from music released in the particular time, in this case June of this year. These 4 songs I feel capture the emotion of the month. I don’t look at which songs I like, or genre, or anything of the sort. It’s all about the music and capturing the mood.

Father John Misty “Hangout at the Gallows”

I picked this song because I felt it described the political climate right now. It seems too many are trying to commit injustice and sweep so mich under the rug.

Lily Allen “Family Man”

This song hit me personally. This is my first Father’s Day without my father. In some ways I ended up filling his shoes in the family. I know I’m not alone in my experience, so I thought it would work.

Sheppard “Edge of the Night”

I picked this because it felt like a fun summer song. There’s not much more to it.

Florence + The Machine “Hunger”

I don’t know if this was intended to be a song directed at any demographic, but I thought it was great for Pride Month. The history of struggling for recognition and ability to live one’s life freely isn’t just for one group which makes it even more appropriate for this month.
